The post claiming Muslims will be 84% of the population in India by 2041 is false

A message is being widely shared on social media claiming that a survey by ‘Institute of World Demographics Research’ has predicted that, by 2041, out of India’s total population, Muslims would account for 84%. Let’s try to analyze the claim made in the post.

Claim: A survey by ‘The Institute of World Demographics Research’ has predicted that, by 2041, out of India’s total population, Muslims would account for 84%

Fact: No information was found about any international organisation with the name ‘The Institute of World Demographics Research’. Also, as per a report of ‘Pew Research Centre’, by 2050, out of India’s total population, Muslims would account for 18.4%. So, the claim made in the post is ‘FALSE’.    

When searched on Google for ‘The Institute of World Demographics Research’, it was found that there is no such international institute with that name. When searched for information regarding the religion-wise demographic pattern of India in the coming years, an article of ‘Pew Research Centre’ was found. In the article, it was predicted that, by 2050, out of India’s total population, Muslim’s would account for 18.4%. ‘Pew Research Centre’, is an American ‘think tank’ that provides information about demographic trends in the world. Also, in the post, the population of Muslims in India,in 2011, as per the official data was quoted as ‘22.6%’. But as per 2011 Census, Muslims population in the country was only ‘14.2%’.
