A video through a post is being widely shared on social media claiming that Hindu extremists were abusing Muslim girl students in Karnataka. Let us fact-check the claim made in the post.

Claim: Video of Hindu extremists abusing Muslim girl students in Karnataka.

Fact: The video is from Sri Lanka and not India. It is a ragging video taken in Eastern University, Sri Lanka in 2019. Recently, a video of a Muslim girl student wearing burqa who was confronted by students wearing saffron stoles in Karnataka went viral. However, this video is not related to this incident. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.

When reverse image search is done on the screenshots of the video, the same video was found uploaded on YouTube on 24 February 2019. The YouTube video, in its title, mentions that the video is from Eastern University. An article, with the same video attached, says it is a ragging video from Eastern University in Sri Lanka.

‘Lanka Sun News’, which is from Sri Lanka, had posted the same video on their Facebook page, saying that the dreadful ragging visuals were from Eastern University in Sri Lanka. A couple of Facebook users have posted (here and here) the same video in February 2019, claiming these to be from Eastern University, Sri Lanka.

Recently, a video of a Muslim girl student wearing burqa who was confronted by students wearing saffron stoles in Karnataka went viral However, this video is not related to that incident.
