A collage (here, here and here) of photos claiming to depict Rahul Gandhi with his “secret Colombian wife” has recently gone viral on social media. The post asserts that WikiLeaks has disclosed information regarding Gandhi’s concealed family based in London. We fact-check this claim through this article.
Claim: WikiLeaks has unveiled information about Rahul Gandhi’s secret marriage.
Fact: WikiLeaks has not revealed any such information. The viral collage features three different women, one of who was reported to be Rahul Gandhi’s girlfriend at one time, known as Veronique Cartelli. Hence, the claim made in the post is Misleading.
To examine the claim’s accuracy, we searched the internet to find any WikiLeaks data regarding Rahul Gandhi’s secret marriage. We found no supporting news reports about WikiLeaks revealing such information. Additionally, an advanced search on WikiLeaks’ social media channels and their official website did not yield any credible information supporting the claim that they revealed information about Rahul Gandhi and his marriage to a Colombian woman in London with their two children.
To gather more information about the women featured in the viral collage, we conducted a reverse image search of each photo in the collage. We discovered that they show three distinct women, one of whom was reported to be Rahul Gandhi’s Spanish girlfriend named Veronique Cartelli at one point.
First Photo
The woman in the first photo is an actress named Nathalia Ramos. She posted (archive link) this photograph on her social media handles (here, here and here) in September 2017, following a meeting with Rahul Gandhi.
Second and Third Photos:
News reports (here and here) suggest that the woman in these photographs was in a relationship with Rahul Gandhi. Years ago, rumours circulated (here and here) that she was a Colombian woman named Juvenitta/Juanita.
However, Rahul Gandhi later informed (here and here) Indian Express that the woman’s name was Veronique.
Third Photo:
The woman depicted in this photo is Gauri Khan, Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan’s wife. The photo dates back to an IPL match in 2008 (here, here and here).
To sum up, the viral post claiming WikiLeaks disclosed information about Rahul Gandhi’s secret Colombian wife is baseless and misleading.
