Video of an incident from Guatemala is falsely linked to the kidnapping of an Israeli Woman

 A video featuring a woman being beaten & burned by a group of people is being shared on social media, claiming she is an Israeli woman being tortured by the Hamas militants. Let’s fact-check the claim made in this post through this article.

Claim: A video of an Israeli woman being tortured & burned by Hamas militants.

Fact: This video is of an incident that occurred in Guatemala in 2015, where a woman was torched and killed on suspicion of killing a taxi driver. Hence, the claim made in the post is False.

To learn more details about the viral clip, we performed a reverse image search using a few keyframes of the video. This search led us to several news reports (here, here, and here) which identified that the video was related to an incident that occurred in ‘Guatemala’.

According to a news report published by CNN in 2015, a 16-year-old girl was beaten and set on fire in Rio Bravo municipality, Guatemala. She later succumbed to the injuries. Reportedly, she was accused of being a part of a group that killed a taxi driver. 

To sum up, a 2015 video from ‘Guatemala’ is being falsely linked to the kidnapping of an Israeli woman.
