Unrelated/AI-generated videos are falsely shared as UFO spottings in various Indian states

0

Social media is abuzz with multiple video clips (here, here, here, here, and here) of alleged UFO/UAP (Unidentified Flying Object/Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena) sightings across India. Users are claiming that these videos were filmed in places like Agra and Rajasthan. One of these videos features an alien walking out of a spaceship, while a few allegedly show Indian airforce jets attacking a UFO in midair. In another video, we see people wearing research gear investigating a UFO lying on the ground. We fact-check these videos through this article.

Claim: These videos show real UFO/UAP sightings that occurred across India recently.

Fact: There are no credible reports to validate the authenticity of any such UFO sightings. The viral videos have been generated digitally. Hence, the claim made in the post is False.

To verify the authenticity of the viral claim, we performed a keyword search on the internet to know of credible reports of any such UFO sightings in Indian states. However, this search did not yield any such report, such a significant development would have garnered significant media attention. Spotting an Alien or a UFO/UAP would have become global news and caught the attention of the whole world. However, that is not the case here.

This makes it clear that these videos do not depict real incidents that happened in India. During research, we learned that these videos are created by content creators using AI, VFX, or Simulation tools. The video, which features an alien deboarding a spaceship and walking under it is available on the internet from as early as January 2012 and contains Chinese text, which contradicts the claim that this video was recently filmed in Rajasthan. Our detailed findings are listed and presented below.

Video 1

During our investigation, we observed a watermark on this video clip, which contained a text that reads @sybervisions_. To learn more, we searched the internet for ‘@sybervisions_’ and found an Instagram page and YouTube channel with the same username that contained the original video (here and here).

In the bio section of this page, sybervisions mentioned that they are an AI-VFX artist and a filmmaker. The original post also contained a Hashtag that reads ‘#aigenerated,’ making it clear that it does not depict a real incident.

The same video is falsely shared on social media as visuals of a UFO Crashing filmed in Arizona, USA. This is being shared in the context of mysterious drones being spotted in Arizona, New Jersey, and several other places in the U.S. (here, here, and here).

Video 2

A reverse image search on a few keyframes from this video led us to an old YouTube video from January 2013 (also this) that contained the clip (uncropped version) seen in the viral video. It can be seen from the 2:23 seconds timestamp.

The video contains opening titles and intertitles in Mandarin, and the language spoken in it also sounds like Mandarin. According to these titles, this incident happened near Beijing, China, on 14 September 2012. We did not find any credible news reports from China to substantiate this claim. However, this makes it clear that this video does not show a recent occurrence in Rajasthan. You can find older uploads of this video on Chinese and other websites here, here, and here.

Video 3

Through a reverse image search on this video’s keyframes, we found that the first clip in this video was created by a VFX and AI artist and YouTube content creator ‘Bilawal.’ He uploads many such VFX videos on his YouTube channel.

Video 4

The middle clip of this video was uploaded to Instagram by ‘chaos_factory1,’ a social media creator who produces videos(here and here) with DCS (Digital Combat Simulator), which facilitates users to operate various places in a simulated environment. The watermark of this page’s username (chaos_factory1) is available on the viral video. Several Instagram pages that uploaded this video(here and here) have credited ‘chaos_factory1’s’ TikTok as the source, which is now defunct.

To sum up, Unrelated/AI-generated videos are falsely shared as UFO sightings in various Indian states.
