A post is being widely shared on social media claiming that Rana Ayyub had written that Will Smith slapping Chris Rock is an example of how Hinduism makes one violent. Recently, Will Smith slapped Chris Rock during the Oscars after Chris Rock made a joke about Smith’s wife; she suffers from a medical condition called alopecia. Will Smith later apologised for his actions. Let us fact-check the claim made in the post.

Fact: The contents of the viral post was taken from a satirical website named ‘The Fauxy’. Rana Ayub did not actually make such comments. Hence, the claim made in the post is MISLEADING.

The posted image has the logo of ‘The Fauxy’ in the bottom right corner. When we searched on Google with relevant keywords, it was found that except ‘The Fauxy’, no news agency reported about such comments by Rana Ayyub on the Will Smith-Chris Rock incident at the Oscars. The news about this incident was published by ‘The Fauxy’ on its website on 28 March 2022. The posted image is the screenshot of ‘The Fauxy’ article. However, according to ‘The Fauxy’ websites’ disclaimer, it is an entertainment portal, and it advises the readers not to confuse its articles as genuine and true.

Even the Twitter handle of ‘The Fauxy’ describes itself as ‘India’s Finest, Fastest & Fictitious News Source.’ According to its YouTube channel, it’s a ‘Satire Portal’.

Rana Ayyub, through her official Twitter account, posted that this viral news was fake.

To sum it up, Rana Ayyub did not write that Will Smith slapping Chris Rock was an example of how Hinduism makes one violent.
