Fact: This news was first published by the Sport Innovation Society Twitter handle on 01 September 2021. Later they deleted this tweet by issuing a public apology for not confirming the veracity of the note. Hence the claim made in the post is FALSE.
When we searched to check whether Queen Elizabeth II had made any such request for a Cristiano Ronaldo autographed jersey, it is found out that the Sport Innovation Society had first reported this information through a tweet on 01 September 2021. In the tweet, the Sport Innovation Society claimed that Queen Elizabeth had ordered 80 signed jerseys of Cristiano Ronaldo to the Royal Court and she had made a personal request to the Manchester United football club to reserve the first signed jersey for her.
However, the Sport Innovation Society subsequently deleted this tweet and later issued an apology for not confirming the veracity of the note. Reporting the complete details, the UK-based ‘Daily Express’ news website published an article on 01 September 2021. Several news outlets that published articles based on Sport Innovation Society’s tweet which later issued a clarification note in the update section.
In the past, a few websites reported that Queen Elizabeth was an ardent fan of West Ham United football club and also mentioned that she had a soft spot for Arsenal football club. They can be seen here and here. But the Queen hasn’t made any recent statement on her favourite football team or favourite player. ‘Snopes’ website had also published a fact-check article on this false news spreading on social media.
