Old videos of bridge collapse in Indonesia and Bihar are falsely linked to the recent Assam floods

Another video of bridge collapsing due to flood waters while a few people are crossing it is also being attributed to the recent floods in Assam.

Claim: Recent video of a bridge getting collapsed in Assam due to rains.

Fact: The posted video is not related to Assam. It is from a 2017 incident in Bihar. Hence the claim made in the post is FALSE.

On reverse image search of the screenshot of the video, a 2017 video uploaded on ANI YouTube channel was found. The description of the video states that three people were feared drowned after a bridge connecting a village collapsed in Bihar’s Araria district. On searching with these keywords may new articles reporting this incident are found. They can be seen here, here and here.

In the context of the recent floods in Assam, a video is being shared widely on social media with a claim that it shows the collapse of a bridge in Assam due to rains. Let’s fact-check the claim made in the post.

Fact: The posted video is not related to Assam. It is an old video from Indonesia. Hence the claim made in the post is FALSE.

When the screenshots of the video were run through Yandex Reverse Image Search, many similar videos were found in the search results. Most of them were posted in April 2021 and had a description that the visuals were from Indonesia. Some of those old posts can be seen here, here, here, and here.
