An awareness video on tackling harassment is being shared as a real incident with a communal narrative

A video is being shared on social media claiming it as visuals of two brave girls resisting eve-teasing from three Muslim goons in a bus stand. This video shows a girl attacking three men with an acid spray, while the men harass a girl sitting beside her. Let’s verify the claim made in the post.

Claim: Video of two brave girls resisting eve-teasing from three Muslim goons.

Fact: The video shared in the post is a scripted one. This video was created intentionally to create awareness among girls on how to tackle harassment situations. This video does not show a true incident and it has nothing to do with the Muslim community. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.

On reverse image search of the screenshots in the video, a video with similar visuals was found on a Facebook page named ‘Lobo 619’. ‘Lobo 619’ Facebook page had published this video on ‘29 February 2020’, with the title, “This was unexpected”.

At the end of the video, we could see a disclaimer displayed at the bottom of the video. The text in the disclaimer reads, “This reel life video footage is published only for the purpose of educating the public by making them understand how the real world situations will be. During this video making, we have taken real incidents and picturized to educate public. Characters in this video are entertainment and education purpose only”.  So, it is confirmed that the video shared in the post is scripted and was produced to create awareness on sexual harassment and eve-teasing.

Similar awareness videos with different concepts were found published on the ‘Lobo 619’ Facebook page. They can be seen here and here. Mohammad Khayyum, popularly known as Lobo is a comedy artist in Hyderabad, Telangana. From all this, it can be confirmed that the video shared in the post is a scripted short film, produced to create awareness on tackling harassment.  

To sum it up, an awareness video on tackling sexual harassment is being shared with a false communal narrative.
