A compilation video of two unrelated incidents is shared with a false claim of a Chhattisgarh MLA slapping a police officer over cow vigilantes arrest

A compilation of two videos is going viral on social media (here, here, and here). In the first part, a man in a white shirt can be seen slapping another man sitting in an office chair. In the second part, a police officer is seen dragging a man by his hair and taking him into a police vehicle. The post includes audio claiming the video is from Chhattisgarh, where an MLA, angry over the arrest of cow vigilantes, allegedly slapped a police officer inside a police station. It further alleges that a truck carrying cows was allowed to pass, after which cow vigilantes confronted them, leading to assaults and arrests. Let’s verify the claim made in the post in this article.

Claim: The video shows a Chhattisgarh MLA, angered by the arrest of cow vigilantes, slapping a police officer.

Fact: The video is a compilation of two unrelated incidents. The first part shows Swabhimani Shetkari Sangathan youth wing president Mayur Borde slapping a bank manager in Jalna, Maharashtra, in August 2024. The second part shows a police officer dragging a man named Karan in Panipat, Haryana, during a clash with cow vigilantes in April 2025. There are no reports of any Chhattisgarh MLA slapping a police officer over the arrest of cow protectors. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.

A reverse image search of keyframes from the viral video of a man in a white shirt seen slapping another man led us to a Times of India report published on 14 August 2024 featuring a screenshot from the video. According to the report, the video actually shows Swabhimani Shetkari Sangathan youth wing president Mayur Borde slapping a bank manager. The incident occurred on 13 August 2024 at a Bank of Maharashtra branch in Varud Budruk village, Jaffrabad tehsil, Jalna district, Maharashtra. Mayur Borde stated that he had received complaints from farmers about the branch manager’s non-cooperation in providing services like crop loans and government subsidies. Several other media outlets also reported the incident (reports available here, here, here, and here).

Factly had previously debunked the same video when it went viral, which falsely claimed that a leader from the ruling Telugu Desam Party in Andhra Pradesh was beating a government employee.

We then verified the second part of the video, showing a police officer dragging a man by his hair, and found multiple media reports (here, here, and here) from April 2025 featuring screenshots from the video. According to these reports, the incident took place in Panipat, Haryana, during a clash between the police and cow vigilantes. The man being dragged is named Karan, who alleged that he had helped the police seize two vehicles belonging to cow smugglers, but the police released them without action. When he protested, he was abused and beaten. Karan lodged a complaint with Panipat Superintendent of Police Lokendra Singh. Action was taken against four policemen: two were suspended, one dismissed, and the fourth removed from duty. This confirms that the viral video was a compilation of two unrelated incidents used to make a fake claim.

We found no reports of any MLA in Chhattisgarh slapping a police officer after the arrest of a cow protector.

To sum up, a compilation video of two unrelated incidents is shared with a false claim of a Chhattisgarh MLA slapping a police officer over cow vigilantes arrest.
