2006 video shared as the Mamata Banerjee’s reaction to Amit Shah’s recent roadshows in West Bengal

A video is being shared on social media claiming it as the visuals of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s reaction to Home Minister Amit shah’s visit to Bengal. In the video, we can see Mamata Banerjee speaking furiously. Ahead of the next year’s Assembly elections in West Bengal, Amit Shah recently conducted roadshows in West Bengal. Let’s verify the claim made in the post.

Claim: Mamata Banerjee’s furious reaction to Amit Shah’s roadshows in West Bengal.

Fact: Video shared in the post is an old one. This video shows Mamata Banerjee protesting furiously inside the West Bengal Assembly on ‘30 November 2006’. Mamata Banerjee did this protest against West Bengal government for obstructing her visit to Singur. This video has nothing to do with the recent roadshows conducted by Amit Shah in West Bengal. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.

On reverse image search of screenshots shared in the post, similar visuals are found in the YouTube videos posted by a few users in the past. They can be seen here, here. One of the videos mentioned it as the visuals of Mamata Banerjee and TMC members destroying the West Bengal Assembly.

When we searched for other reliable sources using these keywords, similar visuals were found in a video posted by the ‘NDTV’ news channel on ‘30 November 2006’. This media report mentions it as the visuals of Mamata Banerjee and Trinamool Congress party members protest inside the West Bengal Assembly on ‘30 November 2006’. In the video, it is reported as the furious protest of West Bengal opposition leader Mamata Banerjee for obstructing her visit to Singur town. It is reported that TMC party members went on a rampage in West Bengal Assembly against the arrest of Mamata Banerjee at Hooghli district.

In protest of the then Left Front government’s decision to allow farmland acquisition for a Tata Motors company project, Mamata Banerjee planned to visit Singur town on ‘30 November 2006’.
