A photo is being shared on social media with a claim that it shows Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine (vaporizer cartridge), which is made in China. Let’s fact-check the claim made in the post.

The archived version of the post can be seen here

Claim: Photo of the Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine (vaporizer cartridge) which is made in China.

Fact: The Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine is given as a shot in the muscle of the upper arm, not inhaled as vapour.  The ‘Pfizer’ company has clarified to Reuters that the vaporizer cartridge is fake. Hence the claim made in the post is FALSE.

When we searched about the Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine, it was found that Pfizer/BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine is given as a shot in the muscle of the upper arm, not inhaled as vapour. But the product given in the photo mentions that it is a vaporizer cartridge. Also, two doses of the vaccine are given to people.

Nothing was mentioned on the Pfizer’s website regarding the COVID-19 vaccine being manufactured as a vaporizer cartridge. Only information with respect to BNT162 COVID-19 vaccine (which is given as a shot) was found on their website.

Also, ‘Reuters’ has reported that the Pfizer has confirmed to them by email that the vaporizer cartridge is fake. It has also reported – ‘the real vaccine is being made using Pfizer and BioNTech’s combined manufacturing network in Germany, Belgium and the United States’. More information regarding the manufacturing and delivery network of Pfizer’s vaccine can be found here and here. FACTLY has also written to Pfizer and this article will be updated with their response.

To sum it up, the Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine (vaporizer cartridge) in the photo is a fake one.
