Visuals of murder in Gurugram are passed as from Uttarakhand, linking a false love jihad angle

A disturbing video of a woman’s dead body lying in a pool of blood is being circulated with a claim that in Uttarakhand, a Muslim man killed a Hindu girl who refused to marry him. In the video, one can see a middle-aged woman beating a young man. Through this article let’s fact-check the claim made in the post.

Claim: Visuals related to an incident wherein a Muslim man in Uttarakhand Killed a Hindu woman, for refusing to marry him.

Fact: The visuals are from Gurugram, Haryana, wherein a 23-year-old Ram Kumar stabbed his former fiancée to death following the termination of their engagement and her refusal to marry him. Police arrested the accused and registered an FIR. Both the victim and accused family belong to the same religion and thus there is no love jihad angle to the incident. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.

Although the visuals depict a young woman who is fatally stabbed, it is important to note that the incident did not occur in Uttarakhand as claimed. Additionally, there is no alleged ‘love jihad’ aspect in this incident.

Performing a reverse image search on the screenshots from the widely circulated video resulted in numerous news reports that corroborated the same visuals. According to these reports, the incident allegedly took place in Gurugram, Haryana. It is reported that a young man stabbed his former fiancée to death following the termination of their engagement and her refusal to marry him. The article identified the victim’s mother as Mithilesh and the father as Rakesh.

The incident occurred during daylight hours, and the Palam Vihar police apprehended the accused, a 23-year-old named Ram Kumar who hails from Badaun, Uttar Pradesh. An FIR has also been registered. A few other news articles that reported the incident can be read here and here.

Gurugram’s Assistant Commissioner of Police, Varun Dahiya, addressed the media and identified the accused as Ram Kumar, the son of Suraj Pal. However, the police do not suspect any communal motive or connection related to the incident.

The FIR also mentioned the same names of the accused, the victim, and their respective parents, as mentioned above. Further, the FIR also mentioned that both the victim and accused were residents of Uttar Pradesh’s Budaun district but lived on rent in Molaheda village in Gurugram. Therefore, all these establish that the incident took place in Gurugram and there is no communal angle associated with the incident.
