A video (here, here and here) showing an aerial view of a speeding train passing through mountainous terrain near a river claims that it depicts the railway line between Devprayag in Uttarakhand and Srinagar in Jammu & Kashmir. Let’s investigate the authenticity of this claim.

Claim: An aerial view of a speeding train passing through mountainous terrain near a river depicts the railway line between Devprayag in Uttarakhand and Srinagar in Jammu & Kashmir.

Fact: The video shows a railway line in Yanbodu Town, Cili, Hunan Province, China. While the Indian government has initiated a 125 kilometer railway project in Uttarakhand, this is not the one depicted in the video. Hence the claim is FALSE.

To verify the authenticity of the video, we performed a reverse image search and discovered that similar footage has been shared multiple times (here and here) on Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok.

Further research led us to an Instagram post featuring the same video, which was captioned: “The train through the steep mountains is located in Yanbodu Town, Cili, Hunan Province, China.”

Additionally, we found a longer version of the same clip shared on YouTube and X.

The comparison between the viral video and Google Earth imagery of the mountainous region in Hunan Province, China, reveals a strong match, further confirming that the video is from Cili, Hunan Province.

Additionally, according to the Indian Railways, there is a Rishikesh–Karnaprayag Railway Line project under construction in Uttarakhand. It spans 125.20 kilometres with 12 stations, but the track is still incomplete, and the target for completion is December 2025.

To sum up, a video showing a railway line in China has been falsely shared as depicting the railway line between Devprayag and Srinagar.
