Visuals of murder in Delhi are being shared with a false communal narrative

A social media post accompanying a video carrying visuals of the murder of a Hindu youth in Delhi is being widely shared attributing a communal angle to the act. The post highlights the way the crime has been committed alluding to the culpability of the Muslim community. Through this article let’s fact-check the claim made in the post.

Claim: Visuals related to the murder of a Hindu youth (Shiva Gurjar) by a Muslim in Delhi.

Fact: DCP West Delhi through a video message clarified that, as far as the incident is concerned, the deceased and the perpetrator both belong to the same community and there is no communal angle involved to the incident. Hence the claim made in the post is MISLEADING.

As per the official reports, there is no communal angle involved in the murder of Shiva Gurjar in Delhi. Following the viral visuals alleging a communal angle to the incident, DCP -West Delhi through a video message confirmed that both the deceased and the perpetrator belong to the same community and there is no communal angle involved in the incident.

Google search with relevant keywords yielded multiple news articles (here & here) which reported the incident. As per these reports, following an altercation with a worker at a paan shop over a collision of the bike, Shiva Gurjar was stabbed in the chest by one of the attackers which led to his death. Further, the article reported that the police have arrested the perpetrators namely Dharmender Rai, Sachin Rai, Ramanuj Rai, and Vakil. The minor who is accused of stabbing Shiva is also held by the police.

Moreover, as per the report, the police have also confirmed that the man seen along with the deceased in the viral visuals is not the attacker. Thus from the above information, it is evident that there is no communal angle in the incident.

To sum it up, visuals of murder in Delhi are being shared with a false communal claim.
