Videos made for entertainment purposes shared as visuals of currency coins grown inside plants

A video is being shared on social media claiming it as the visuals of people discovering currency coins inside the roots of a plant. This video shows two men plucking the roots of a plant and extracting currency coins from inside. Let’s verify the claim made in the post.

Claim: Video of people discovering currency coins in plants.

Fact: A Pakistani TikTok user named Rana G has posted similar videos of extracting currency coins from vegetables and roots of plants. Rana G in multiple videos provided a description saying that the videos are created for entertainment and fun purposes. In a few videos, Rana G explained the process of how he re-attached the sliced vegetables using thin sticks. Though we could not ascertain the exact details of the video shared in the post, it can be confirmed that the video does not show a natural plant that grows money in its root branches as there is no evidence of coins growing inside plants. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.

On reverse image search of the screenshots of the video, we could not find any reliable sources related to this video on the internet. When we searched for sources using relevant keywords on the internet, similar visuals of extracting money from vegetables and roots of plants are found in a Facebook video published by the ‘Al Arabiya’ news channel on 17 October 2021. ‘Al Arabiya’ in the Facebook post reported that videos of a Pakistani Tiktoker growing money inside vegetables, eggs and roots of plants went viral on social media. A watermark of a TikTok id ‘rana_g707’ can be seen at the bottom of the video published by Al Arabiya.

When we searched for further sources using this information, a similar video of a man extracting currency coins from the branches of a tree was found in the Instagram handle of ‘rana_g707’. Rana G published another video on his YouTube channel showing the visuals of him extracting money from the roots of a plant. In the description of multiple videos, Rana G stated that the videos are created for entertainment and fun purposes.

In a few videos, Rana G explained the process of how he re-attached the sliced vegetables and plant branches using thin sticks. They can be seen here and here. A few users shared a video of them extracting currency notes inside a fruit. There is no evidence of any plant on the earth capable of growing coins or currency notes inside its branches or roots. Earlier, when a similar video showing an egg grown to a plant went viral on social media, FACTLY published a fact-check article debunking that claim. Though we could not ascertain the exact details of the video shared in the post, it can be concluded from all these pieces of evidence that the video shared in the post does not show any natural plant where coins grow inside it.

To sum it up, videos made for entertainment purposes are shared as real visuals of currency coins grown inside plants.
