A video is being widely shared on social media claiming that the Indian army shot down a stone pelter on the spot when he threw stones on Army convoy. The visuals show a group of people in a street and a man throwing something before he is injured in an explosion. Let’s fact-check the claim made in the post.

Fact: The incident in the video took place in La Paz, Bolivia in the first week of August 2022. The Bolivian coca farmers were protesting the parallel coca market. During the protest, a dynamite exploded in the hand of 30-year-old protestor. He was seriously injured and lost his left arm. Hence the claim made in the post is FALSE.

A reverse image search on the keyframes of the viral video led to a Bolivian newspaper that used these visuals while reporting an incident on its website.

Taking a cue from this, we searched the internet with the relevant keywords and found several media reports on this issue. They can be seen here, herehere and here.

According to these reports, Members of the Association of Coca Producers (Adepcoca) were protesting the parallel coca market claiming that it enjoys the support of the government. In the first week of August 2022, police in Bolivia’s La Paz fired tear gas shells to repel a crowd of coca farmers trying to shut down a parallel market for the plant. During these protests, a coca grower, Placido Cota, 30, a single father of two children was injured allegedly because of a dynamite that exploded in his hand. The producer is a member of the Association of Coca Producers (Adepcoca). According to the report of the doctor, the patient was admitted with hypovolemic shock, due to the explosion of dynamite he lost his left arm.
