A post sharing a couple of video clips is being widely circulated on social media claiming it to be an old video of the Hindu girl who was allegedly murdered and was packed in a suitcase by her Muslim boyfriend. The first video shows a girl confronting a few social media comments opposing her love for a Muslim boy. In the video, the girl says that she doesn’t care about the opinions in the comments and that she has a tattoo of her boyfriend’s name. The other video shows the visuals of police recovering a woman’s dead body packed in a suitcase on a road. The post claims that the body is of the woman who was talking about her muslim boy friend. Let’s verify the claim made in the post.
Claim: Video of the Hindu girl who was allegedly murdered and was packed in a suitcase by her Muslim boyfriend.
Fact: The second clip shared in the post shows police recovering a woman’s dead body found packed in a suitcase near the IFFCO Chowk in Gurugram on 17 October 2022. The deceased Priyanka was killed by her husband Rahul over a demand to purchase TV, mobile phone, and other accessories. The girl in the first video clip is not the deceased woman Priyanka, and the accused in the case is not a Muslim. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.
On reverse image search of the screenshots of the first video clip shared in the post, we could not find any reliable sources about the girl speaking in the video clip. On reverse image search of the screenshots of the second video clip, a video showing similar visuals was found published by the ‘News 24’ news channel on 17 October 2022. This news website reported that the Gurugram police have recovered a woman’s naked dead body packed in a suitcase and thrown away near the IFFCO Chowk road in Gurugram, Haryana. Several news websites published articles and videos reporting this information on 17 October 2022.
When we searched for further details of this murder case in Gurugram, we found that on 19 October 2022, the Gurugram Police arrested the deceased woman’s husband accusing him of committing the murder. According to the news reports, Rahul, a man working as a helper at a private company in Gurugram, killed his wife Priyanka after a heated argument over her demands for TV, mobile and others. After the murder, Rahul packed his wife’s dead body in a suitcase and dumped it in the bushes near the IFFCO Chowk on 17 October 2022. To hide his identity, Rahul reportedly cut a part of his wife’s right forearm skin on which his name was tattooed. Reporting the details of this case, several news websites published articles in October 2022. They can be seen here, here and here. On comparing the deceased woman’s picture shared in the ‘Amar Ujala’ news website with that of the girl shown in the video clip, it can be confirmed that the girl speaking in the video clip is not Priyanka, the deceased woman whose dead body was found packed in a suitcase in Gurugram. Also, the accused in the case is Rahul, not Abdul as claimed in the post.
To sum it up, a video unrelated to the woman’s dead body found in a suitcase incident in Gurugram is shared with a communal narrative.
