A video is being shared on social media claiming it as the visuals of farmers drinking alcohol at a protest site in Delhi. In the wake of ongoing farmers’ protests over the new farm laws, this post is shared on social media. Let’s verify the claim made in the post.

Claim: Video of farmers drinking alcohol at a protest site in Delhi.

Fact: The video shared in the post is old, and is available on the internet at least since April 2020, much before the Indian Parliament passed the new farm laws on 20 September 2020. Hence, the claim made in the post is False.

On reverse image search of the screenshots shared in the video, we found similar visuals in videos uploaded on social media during April 2020. These can be seen here, here and here. Most of the users shared this video with the comment ‘Nobody would have thought this type of aid’. A YouTube channel shared this video mentioning that a person donated alcohol to poor people, during the lockdown period.

On 14 September 2020, the Government of India introduced the new farm bills in Lok Sabha. Lok Sabha passed these amendments on 17 September 2020. On 20 September 2020, the new agriculture reform bills were passed by the Indian Parliament. Following this, Political parties and farm organizations like Bharatiya Kisa Union (BKU) started protesting the against these new farm laws.

Though we could not ascertain the exact details of video shared in the post, it is confirmed that this video exists on the internet much before the new farm laws were passed by the Indian Parliament.
