Update (JULY 27, 2021): While the earlier posts claimed the video to be from Japan, multiple users of social media have linked this video from an event in Mongolia to ongoing 2020 Tokyo olympics.

A video is being shared on social media with a claim that it shows people in Indian flag dress code doing Surya Namaskar in Japan. Let’s fact-check the claim made in the post.

The archived version of the post can be seen here.

Claim: Video of people in Indian flag dress code doing Surya Namaskar in Japan.

Fact: The video is from Mongolia, not Japan. The performance was part of the Community Reception & Yoga Event organised by ‘Art of Living’ in Mongolia when PM Modi visited the country in May 2015. Hence the claim made in the post is FALSE.

When the screenshots of the video were run through Google Reverse Image Search, it was found that some users have shared the same video with the description that it is related to Mongolia. So, when we searched with some keywords, the extended version of the same clip was found to be posted by ‘Narendra Modi’ and ‘PMO India’ channels on YouTube in May 2015. The title of the video on ‘Narendra Modi’ channel reads – “PM Modi at the Community Reception & Yoga Event organised by ‘Art of Living’ in Mongolia”.

The event was held at Buyant Ukhaa Stadium in Mongolia when PM Modi visited the country in May 2015. The tweets made by ‘Narendra Modi’ and ‘PMO India’ regarding this event can be seen here and here.

More information regarding the event can be found here.
