A video is going viral on social media (here, here, and here) with the claim that a man who went to the police station to file a missing persons complaint about his daughter was slapped by a policeman. Following this, the local MLA allegedly visited the police station and confronted the policeman, teaching him a lesson. Let’s verify the truth behind the video in this article.

The archived post can be found here.

Claim: The video shows a man who went to file a missing complaint about his daughter being slapped by a policeman, after which the local MLA visited the police station and confronted the officer.

Fact: The viral video is a combination of two unrelated incidents. The first part is from 18 September 2022, when a policeman at Binauli Police Station in Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh, slapped a man who came to report about his missing niece. Following the incident, the inspector was transferred, and departmental action was initiated. The second part of the video is from 28 December 2024, showing a man attacking police officers inside Pandavapura Police Station in Mandya district, Karnataka, during an inquiry over a land dispute. He was later arrested. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.

A reverse image search of the keyframes from the viral video led to an X post (archived) by ANI UP/Uttarakhand from 18 September 2022 featuring the first part of the video showing policemen slapping a man. The post reported that the inspector of Binauli police station, Uttar Pradesh, slapped a person who came to report about his missing niece. Following the incident, the inspector was attached to the police lines. On the same day, the then SP of Baghpat, Neeraj Jadoun, confirmed the incident, stating that an investigation was ordered and departmental action was initiated against the inspector for his misconduct.

We found multiple media reports (here, here, and here) covering this incident. According to these reports, a Police Inspector of Binauli Police Station in Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh, slapped a man on 18 September 2022 and was subsequently transferred, with a departmental inquiry initiated against him.

To verify the second part of the viral video, which shows a man confronting police officers, we conducted a reverse image search of a keyframe. This led us to the same video uploaded by NDTV (archived) on its official YouTube channel on 28 December 2024. The video is titled: “Karnataka News | Clash Erupts At Police Station As Former Municipal President’s Son Assaults Cops.” The description of the video revealed that the incident took place at a police station in Pandavapura, Mandya district, Karnataka. It shows Sagar, son of former Municipal President Jagadish, attacking police officers during an inquiry related to a land dispute. The altercation began after Sagar allegedly assaulted the complainant, which then escalated into violence against the police. The description also stated that Sagar was arrested and remanded in custody for 14 days. This confirms that the viral video is a combination of two unrelated incidents.

We also found multiple reports covering this incident (here, here, and here). According to these reports, the incident took place at the Pandavapura police station in Mandya district. Sagar, who was called in for questioning over a land dispute complaint, got into an argument with the police. As the situation escalated, he physically attacked the officers. A case was registered against him, and he was later arrested.

On 29 December 2024, the official X handle of SP Mandya shared a post about the incident, which included CCTV footage. The post mentioned that the incident occurred on 28 December 2024 and identified the accused as Sagar.

Based on the available evidence, it can be concluded that the viral video is a combination of two unrelated clips, falsely shared with the claim that a man who went to report his daughter missing was slapped by a policeman, and that the local MLA later visited the police station to confront the officer.

To sum up, two unrelated videos were edited together to falsely show an MLA confronting a policeman for slapping a resident who came to file a complaint.
