Claim: Video showing Muslims brutally attacking a cow at a ISKCON farm in Bangladesh.

Fact: This viral video is not from Bangladesh. The video shows an attack on a bull by unidentified dairy workers at a dairy farm in Jalandhar, Punjab. An FIR has been registered regarding the viral video and the incident at Sadar Jalandhar Police Station. Speaking to Factly, the SHO of Sadar Jalandhar Police Station stated that the preliminary investigation revealed the video is nearly two years old. He further stated that the investigation is ongoing, and the identities of the accused have yet to be determined. Hence the claim made in the post is MISLEADING.

To gather details about the viral video, we conducted a Google reverse image search using keyframes from the video. This search led us to a post (archived here) featuring the same viral video, shared on Instagram on 14 November 2024 by a user named ‘Vinay Kapoor3930’. He identified himself as the President of SHIVSENA RASHTRAWADI (TANGRI) and the Azad Krantikari Welfare Society (Regd.), Jalandhar, Punjab. According to the video’s description, it was filmed at Jamsher Dairy in Jalandhar, Punjab, India. The post reads: “Goudhan (Bail) was being killed very badly by some persons in Jamsher Dairy of Jalandhar, we reached there on the spot as soon as we got the video and complained to the police administration so that strict action can be taken against such culprits.” (Translated from Hindi to English).

Subsequently, we also found a post (archived here) on X (formerly Twitter) shared on 19 November 2024 featuring the same video. However, the post does not specify the location of the incident. In response (archived here) to this post, PETA stated that an FIR had already been registered by the Sadar Police Station under Section 325 of the Indian Penal Code (BNS) and Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (PCA) Act.

By performing a relevant keyword search, we found a news report on the ‘Khabristanpunjabi’ website, which also featured the viral video. According to this report, the incident in the video took place at a dairy farm in Jalandhar, Punjab. Additionally, a report published by ‘The Tribune’ on 20 November 2024 stated that Srisht Bhakshi, the leader of an organisation called the Animal Protection Foundation, filed a complaint and protested against the incident shown in the viral video.

Further, we found the Facebook page of the Animal Protection Foundation, an animal welfare organization based in Jalandhar, Punjab. Upon reviewing the page, we discovered that the organization had shared the viral video on 13 November 2024. In another post, it was mentioned that members of the organization had met with the local DSP in connection with the incident. The page also shared a video of the organization’s president meeting with the DSP, where the DSP discussed the incident, along with a copy of the complaint filed with the police and the registered FIR.

Additionally, upon searching the Punjab Police website, we found the FIR (0228/2024) filed at the Sadar Jalandhar Police Station regarding the viral video and incident. According to the FIR, the video was filmed at the Ghuman Dairy Farm in the Jamsher area of Jalandhar. The identities of the accused/attackers were unknown, and the cow/bull involved in the incident was deceased. Based on all this information, it is clear that the viral video shows an incident that occurred at a dairy farm in Jalandhar, Punjab.

We also contacted Srisht Bhakshi aka Yuvi Singh, of the Animal Protection Foundation in Jalandhar, who had filed a complaint regarding the incident. In a conversation with us, he clarified that the video shows a bull being brutally beaten by four men at a farm called Jamsher Dairy Complex in Jalandhar, Punjab. He further mentioned that based on the organization’s complaint, the police had registered an FIR and initiated an investigation, and that the identities of the accused/attackers have yet to be determined.

We also spoke to the SHO of Sadar Jalandhar Police Station. Speaking to us, SHO Suresh Kumar stated, “in our preliminary investigation, the owner of the dairy farm claimed the video is nearly two years old. The people in the video attacked the bull because it had attacked one of the dairy farm workers”. The SHO further mentioned that the investigation is ongoing, and the identities of the accused are yet to be determined.
