Fact: The video is from Bahadurganj, Bihar, not Uttar Pradesh. On 16 August 2025, 18-year-old Masoom Alam Raja was tied to an electric pole and beaten over alleged theft. A case was registered against several accused. The UP Police Fact Check, through an X post, clarified that the viral video is from Bihar and unrelated to Uttar Pradesh. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.
A reverse image search of keyframes from the viral video led us to several media reports (here, here, and here) dated 23 August 2025 featuring the screenshot of the same video. According to these reports, the incident took place in Bahadurganj, Kishanganj, Bihar, where 18-year-old Masoom Alam Raja from Lohagada was allegedly punished by a shopkeeper for theft. On 16 August 2025, he was reportedly picked up from Jhansi Rani Chowk, tied to an electric pole near NH 327E, and beaten with sticks. The victim said he was also threatened to stay silent. Following the video going viral, the police registered a case against Mojjam, Izhar, and ten others. Masoom received treatment at a government hospital in Bahadurganj, Bihar.
