This video of Arvind Kejriwal threatening the people of Gujarat is an edited one

A post is being shared on social media claiming it as the video of Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal threatening the people of Gujarat in a public meeting. The post claims it as the visuals of the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) public meeting held in 2012. Let’s verify the claim made in the post.

Claim: Video of Arvind Kejriwal threatening the people of Gujarat in a 2012 public meeting.

Fact: Video shared in the post is an edited one. In the original video, the Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal criticized Amit Shah and the BJP government’s agenda that challenges the people of Gujarat. This public meeting was held on 18 October 2016 at Surat city in Gujarat. Hence, the claim made in the post is False.

On reverse image search, a video with similar visuals was found in a tweet by BJP leader Harsh Sanghavi. Harsha Sanghavi posted this video claiming it as the visuals of Arvind Kejriwal’s hatred towards the people of Gujarat. Responding to this tweet, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Gujarat clarified that the video shared by Harsh Sanghavi is an edited clip. AAP Gujarat shared the extended version of Arvind Kejriwal’s speech in their tweet. In the extended version of the video, Kejriwal spoke about Amit Shah’s agenda that challenges the Patidar community and the people of Gujarat.

When we searched for the other reliable sources using relevant keywords, we found the video of Arvind Kejriwal’s complete speech on the Aam Aadmi Party YouTube channel. This video was published on 18 October 2016, with the title ‘Arvind Kejriwal Addresses people at Surat’. The same visuals in the post can be seen from the 14.39 minutes of this video. In the extended version of the video, Arvind Kejriwal said, “पुरे  गुजरात को challenge हे  अमित शाह का,  की  ‘मे  गुजरात को ऐसेही चलाऊंगा, अगर  मेरे  खिलाफ कोई  विरोध करेंगे थो मे  कुचल दूंगा। और  गुजरात वालो, जो कर सकते हो करो,  मेरे  बिघाड  सकते हो थो बिघाडो’”।. When translated to English it says “Amit Shah is challenging the people of Gujarat with an agenda that if you protest against me, I will crush you”. The full version of Kejriwal’s speech can also be seen here. By editing the context about Amit Shah in Arvind Kejriwal’s speech, this video in the post is being shared with a false narrative.

According to ‘The Hindu’ article, AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal held a public meeting at Surat city in Gujarat, on 18 October 2016. Arvind Kejriwal reportedly criticized Amit Shah and the BJP Government in Gujarat for the 2015 Patidar reservation agitation in his speech. From all these pieces of evidence, it is concluded that the video shared in the post is an edited clip of Aravind Kejriwal’s speech in 2016.

To sum it up, an edited video of Arvind Kejriwal’s old speech is being shared now with a false narrative.
