A video of a doctor explaining the first aid treatment for an unconscious person is being widely shared on social media claiming it is a video from the Tata Memorial Hospital. In the video, the doctor recommends people to lift both legs of the unconscious person and tilt the neck for proper blood and oxygen circulation inside the body. Let’s verify the claim made in the post.

Claim: Video of first aid treatment for unconscious persons suggested by the Tata Memorial Hospital.

Fact: The video shows Dr. Mohammed Abdul Rafeeq, a General Physician and advisor to the Shadan Group of Medical Colleges in Hyderabad, explaining first aid and emergency treatment for unconscious persons. The video has nothing to do with the Tata Memorial Hospital. Hence, the claim made in the post is False.

On reverse image search of the screenshots of the video and by searching with relevant keywords, a video with similar visuals was found published by the Facebook page of the Ali Islam community group on 25 January 2023. This Facebook page mentioned it as the first aid tips provided by Dr. Mohammed Abdul Rafeeq for treating unconscious persons.

When we searched for further sources using this information, a video with similar visuals was found published on Dr. Mohammed Abdul Rafeeq’s official YouTube channel. Dr. Mohammed Abdul Rafeeq is a General Physician, Educationist, Social Activist and advisor to the Shadan Group of Medical Colleges in Hyderabad. According to the reports published by the UK’s National Health Service (NHS) and other medical research websites, if a person is lying unconscious but is breathing and unlikely to suffer from a spinal injury, it is recommended to roll the patient into a recovery position on their side. It is recommended to adjust the patient’s legs so that their hips and knees form right angles and it is suggested to tilt the patient’s head gently to help keep their airway open.

Earlier, when a similar video of a woman performing tapping exercises was attributed to the Tata Memorial Hospital, Tata Memorial Hospital Director CS Pramesh tweeted a clarification stating, “@TataMemorial has nothing to do with this video, and any attribution to Tata Memorial Hospital is strongly refuted.” Factly published a fact-check article debunking the same claim in October 2022.

To sum it up, this video of a doctor explaining first aid tips for treating unconscious persons is not from Tata Memorial Hospital.
