A post with a video of police chasing down a man is being widely shared across social media platforms with the claim that the video is of Vienna police apprehending the terrorist who carried out the recent terror attack. Through this article, let’s fact-check the claim made in the post.

Claim: Video of Vienna police chasing down the terrorist who carried out the recent Vienna terror attack.

Fact: The video actually shows the clashes which broke out between the police and demonstrators over the newly imposed COVID-19 lockdown restrictions in Barcelona, Spain. This video has nothing to do with the Vienna terror attack. Hence the claim made in the post is FALSE.

Reverse image search of the screen shots of the video in the post led us to a tweet by a news agency which shared the same video attributing it to the recent clash between police and demonstrators in Barcelona, Spain over COVID-19 lockdown restrictions.

Taking a cue from the tweet, further Google search with relevant keywords led us to a news article dated 2 November 2020 which carried a video similar to the one in the post. According to this report, the video depicts the violent clashes which broke out between police and demonstrators in Barcelona, Spain over newly imposed COVID-19 restrictions. With all this, we can confirm that the video does not show Vienna police apprehending the Islamic terrorist and the video has nothing to do with Vienna terror attack.

In the light of the recent terror attack in Vienna, posts like these are being shared on social media with misleading claims.

To sum it up, the video is actually of clashes between police and demonstrators in Barcelona, Spain over COVID-19 lockdown restrictions.
