The man in the video hasn’t committed suicide opposing CAA and NRC

A post with a video clip is being widely shared on social media with a claim that it shows a man committing suicide opposing the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC). Let’s analyze the claim made in the post.

Claim: Video of a man committing suicide opposing CAA & NRC.

Fact: The man in the video has committed suicide due to his personal reasons. It has nothing to do with CAA or NRC. So, the claim is FALSE.   

When the video was uploaded in ‘InVid’ plugin, many keyframes of it were obtained. When these keyframes were subjected to reverse image search technique, a certain keyframe was found in an article of ‘DT NEXT’. As per this article, the man in the video is Sakthi and he was summoned to appear before an RDO inquiry commission that was setup after the death of his wife, Thenisha. When Sakthi, who was dejected, reached the Madurai Collectorate for the inquiry, all of a sudden he climbed up the transformer to end his life fearing police action. So, the man in the video has committed suicide due to his personal reasons. It has nothing to do with CAA or NRC.
