Many Facebook users are sharing a post with the picture of a person dressed as Lord Hanuman, claiming him to be the BJP’s candidate from Ranaghat constituency of West Bengal. Let’s try to analyze the claim made in the post.

Claim: The man seen dressed as Hanuman in the photo is BJP’s Lok Sabha candidate from Ranaghat, West Bengal.

Fact: The BJP in order to seek the voters’ attention in Ranaghat, has used a man dressed as Lord Hanuman for the election campaign of its local candidate, Jagannath Sarkar. Hence, the claim is FALSE.

When the photo in the post is run through Google Reverse Image search, it was found in an article of bengali.news18.com, a subsidiary of News18 media house. According to the story, the BJP unit in Bengal, to gain the attention of the voters in Ranaghat constituency has planned to seat a man dressed as Lord Hanuman on the bonnet of their campaign vehicle. And the BJP candidate Jagannath Sarkar was seen campaigning in an open top vehicle. Dilip Ghosh, president of the BJP WB unit, had shared the images on April 22. Since then, these photos are in circulation with false claims.

To sum it up, the man dressed as Hanuman isn’t the BJP’s Lok Sabha candidate from Ranaghat, West Bengal.
