A post featuring images of pages from a book is widely shared on social media platforms, claiming that CBSE has included chapters on dating and relationships in the Class 9 textbook. Even some popular media organisations like Times Now, India Today, News 18 also reported the same. Through this article, let’s fact-check the claim made in the post.
Claim: CBSE has included chapters on dating and relationships in the Class 9 textbook.
Fact: CBSE issued a clarification on this viral claim through their official X (Twitter), stating that a section of the media is wrongly attributing the book to be a publication of theirs. The post further clarified that the contents of the chapter are from a book titled ‘A Guide to Self-Awareness and Empowerment,’ published by G Ram Books (P) Ltd. Similarly, G Ram Books (P) Ltd. also clarified through their Twitter post that the book has no connection to CBSE or NCERT; it is published by them. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.
To check the veracity of the viral claim, we conducted a relevant keyword search on the internet. During this search, we found media reports (here & here) indicating that CBSE had issued a clarification on this viral claim through their official X (Twitter).
Subsequently, we located a clarification post shared on the X account of CBSE, explaining that a section of the media is wrongly attributing the book to be a publication of theirs. The post further clarified that the contents of the chapter are actually from a book titled ‘A Guide to Self-Awareness and Empowerment,’ authored by Gagan Deep Kaur and published by G Ram Books (P) Ltd. CBSE neither publishes any books nor recommends books from any private publishers.
Similarly, we also found a clarification post shared by G. Ram Books (P) Limited on its X (Twitter) page regarding this viral claim. The post mentioned that the book series covers various topics, including the generation gap, regulating emotions, good touch, bad touch, dealing with depression and anxiety, and more. The post further clarified that these books have not been published by CBSE or NCERT. They have been published by us at G. Ram Books (P.) Ltd., thoughtfully and responsibly, for the promotion of positive mental health among school students. From this information, it is evident that the books that include chapters on dating and relationships are published by G. Ram Books (P.) Ltd and are not related to CBSE.
To sum it up, the book that includes chapters on dating and relationships is falsely attributed as a CBSE Class 9 textbook.
