Along with the chief ministers and deputy chief ministers of BJP-ruled states, top BJP leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and BJP President JP Nadda, attended the meeting. In this context, a video from the meeting is being widely shared across social media platforms, claiming that Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath ignored Prime Minister Narendra Modi and did not greet him (here, here, here, and here). Through this article, let’s fact-check the claim made in the post.
Claim: Video showing Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath ignoring PM Modi and not greeting him during the July 2024 BJP chief ministers’ meeting at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi.
Fact: Visuals from another angle of the same meeting, shared on BJP’s official X (Twitter) handle and PM Modi’s official YouTube channel, show that all the leaders present, including Yogi Adityanath, greeted Prime Minister Modi with folded hands (Namaste gesture). Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.
To learn more about this viral video, we conducted a reverse image search using keyframes from the video. This search led us to a similar video shared on the official X (formerly Twitter) handle of the BJP on 28 July 2024. The caption of the video reads: ‘Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi held a meeting with BJP Chief Ministers and Deputy Chief Ministers at BJP Headquarters, New Delhi.’ This video shows visuals from a different angle compared to the viral clip. In this video, we can clearly see that as soon as Prime Minister Narendra Modi enters, Yogi Adityanath, along with other leaders, greets him.
We also found a video of this meeting shared on the official YouTube channel of PM Modi on 28 July 2024, titled ‘PM Modi attends a meeting of BJP CMs and Deputy CMs.‘ This video also shows visuals from a different angle compared to the viral clip, where we can clearly see that as soon as Prime Minister Narendra Modi enters, Yogi Adityanath, along with other leaders, greets him with folded hands (Namaste gesture). From this, it is evident that all the leaders present at the meeting, including Yogi Adityanath, greeted Prime Minister Modi with folded hands (Namaste gesture).
