This post claims that during a recent public rally held in Banaras, the Congress party played only Azan prayers for ten minutes to attract the Muslim community’s votes. Fact: The video shows visuals from the ‘Kisan Nyay’ rally event that was held on 10 October 2021 in Varanasi. The ‘Kisan Nyay’ event organizers played recitals of Hindu, Islam and Sikh religious verses at the beginning of the event. Priyanka Gandhi and other leaders stood and paid respects while these prayers were being played. The video shared in the post was created by cropping only the Azan recital portion of the event. Hence the claim made in the post is MISLEADING.
When we searched to check the details of this video shared in the post, we found that the video is from the ‘Kisan Nyay’ rally that was held on 10 October 2021 in Varanasi. Videos of Priyanka Gandhi addressing the ‘Kisan Nyay’ rally can be seen here and here.
The ‘UP Tak’ news channel published the complete video of the ‘Kisan Nyay’ rally on 10 October 2021. At the beginning of the ‘Kisan Nyay’ event, one could see Priyanka Gandhi and other Congress leaders standing and reciting religious prayers. These visuals can be seen from 0:45 minutes of the video. These recitals started with Hindu mantras followed by Islam’s Azan and Sikh religious prayers. At 2:10 minutes of the video, we could see Priyanka Gandhi reciting ‘Hara Hara Mahadev’ chants along with the crowd present in the event. From 3:05 minutes of the video, we could hear Azan recitals in the event. This Azan prayer was recited for more than two and a half minutes (between 3:05 and 5:48 minutes) in the event. Following the Azan prayer, Sikh religious prayer was recited in the ‘Kisan Nyay’ rally.
Also, Priyanka Gandhi, while addressing the ‘Kisan Nyay’ rally, recited Durga Mantras and urged people to chant ‘Jai Matha Di’ slogans. Reporting this information, several news outlets published reports which can be seen here and here.
