President of India did not tweet requesting for withdrawal of Kangana Ranaut’s Padma Award.

A post is being widely shared on social media claiming that the President of India, Ram Nath Kovind, had tweeted requesting PM Modi to permit him to withdraw Kangana Ranaut’s Padma Award. The photo of the purported tweet is being shared through the post. Let us fact-check the claim made in the post.

Claim: President of India tweeted requesting PM Modi to permit him to withdraw Kangana Ranaut’s Padma Award.

Fact: The twitter account ‘@rashtrptibhvn’ seen in the image is not the official account of Ram Nath Kovind, the President of India. In fact, when one tries to open that handle, it is shown that the account is “suspended”. The official twitter account of President of India is ‘@rashtrapatibhvn’, and no such tweet as shared in the post was made through this account. Hence, the claim made in the post is False.

When the image in the post is seen clearly, one can see that the account ‘@rashtrptibhvn’ is not the official account of Ram Nath Kovind, the President of India. In fact, when one tries to open that handle, it is shown that the account is “suspended”.

The official Twitter account of the President of India is ‘@rashtrapatibhvn’. When we looked for news articles, and tweets made through his official twitter account regarding any request made to the PM about permitting him to withdraw Kangana’s Padma Award, we could not find any.

Bollywood Actress Kangana Ranaut was conferred the Padma Shri Award by the President of India, Ram Nath Kovind on 08 November 2021. Later, Kangana, in an interview, described India’s Independence in 1947 as “bheekh” or alms. Her statement triggered a controversy, with many demanding that her Padma Shri be taken back. One of them was Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief Swati Maliwal who wrote to the President requesting him to withdraw Kangana’s Padma Award.

To sum it up, the President of India did not tweet requesting PM Modi to permit him to withdraw Kangana Ranaut’s Padma Award.
