A social media post accompanying a video of a massive landslide, wherein a part of the road collapsing into a gorge is being widely circulated with a claim that the visuals shows Narayangarh- Kathmandu road in Nepal. Through this article let’s fact-check the claim made in the post.

Claim: Recent visuals showing collapse of Narayangarh- Kathmandu Road in Nepal.

Fact: These visuals actually show the collapse of national highway 707, which connects Shilai with the Paonta Sahib, in Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh. And the incident took place in June 2021. While it is true that Narayangarh in Nepal witnessed landslides this June (2022), the viral visuals are not related to these landslides. Hence the claim made in the post is FALSE.

There are reports of Nepal witnessing landslides in June, this year (2022). There are also reports of occurrence of landslides along the Narayangarh road in Nepal (here, here & here). However, visuals shared in the viral post are not related to these landslides.

Reverse image search of the viral visuals yielded us multiple 2021 news reports which reported the same visuals back then. As per these reports, the visuals show landslides in Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh (here, here & here).

Multiple news agencies have reported the visuals and according to these reports, the visuals show collapse of national highway 707, which connects Shilai with the Paonta Sahib.

While it is true that Nepal and in particular the Narayangarh area have witnessed landslides earlier in the month of June (2022), the viral visuals are not related to these landslides. Visuals related to Nepal landslide, reported by the Nepal media can be viewed here & here.

To sum it up, old visuals showing landslides in Himachal Pradesh are being passed off as from Nepal.
