Old videos shared as the recent emotional messages from Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli following India’s defeat in the 2023 ICC World Cup Finals

Multiple posts are being shared on social media claiming that they show emotional video messages by Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli after India’s defeat in the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup Finals. Those social media posts can be seen here and here. Let’s verify the claim made in the post.  

Claim: Emotional video messages shared by Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli after India’s defeat in the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup Finals.

Fact: One of the posts shared a small clip from the full video of Rohit Sharma’s Instagram conversation with Suresh Raina that took place in March 2020. Virat Kohli tweeted the other video in May 2018, expressing his apologies to fans for the subpar performance of RCB in the 2018 edition of the IPL. Hence, the claims made in these posts are False.      

Video 1:

On reverse image search of the screenshots of the video, the same visuals were found in a video published by the ‘Sportskeeda Cricket’ YouTube channel. The video shows Rohit Sharma’s Instagram conversation with Suresh Raina in March 2020. From 7:43 minutes of the video, one could see Rohit Sharma making the same statements as shown in the video shared in the post. A few other news sites have also published videos of the Instagram conversation between Rohit Sharma and Suresh Raina in March 2020. So, it is confirmed that the video shared in the post is old and has nothing to do with the recent ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 Finals.

Video 2:

On searching for Virat Kohli’s video clip using keywords, we found the same video on the ‘X’ handle of Virat Kohli. Virat Kohli tweeted the video with the description, “I really believe in the concept of, you either win or you learn. We fought hard and gave it our all but one thing is for sure, next season we definitely will bounce back stronger than ever with our learnings from this season. Take care.” Virat Kohli tweeted this video to apologize to fans for disappointing them with RCB’s performance in the 2018 IPL Edition.

Neither Rohit Sharma nor Virat Kohli shared any emotional messages on their social media handles after India’s defeat in the 2023 ICC World Cup Finals.

To sum it up, unrelated old videos are shared as the emotional video messages shared by Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli following India’s defeat in the 2023 ICC World Cup Finals.
