A video is being shared on social media claiming it as recent visuals of terrified passengers inside a turbulence hit Air India aircraft flying from Delhi to Amritsar. This video shows a woman adjusting a detached window panel in a plane. Let’s verify the claim made in the post.

Claim: Recent video showing a woman adjusting a detached window panel inside a turbulence-hit Air India plane.

Fact: The incident shown in the video took place in April 2018. An Air India Boeing 787 Dream liner flying from Amritsar to Delhi was hit by severe turbulence, causing injuries to three passengers in 2018. The video shows a cabin crew adjusting a detached window panel that fell off during the turbulence. It is not a recent incident. Hence, the claim made in the post is MISLEADING.

On reverse image search of the screenshots of the video, a video with similar visuals was found published by the ‘NDTV’ news channel on 22 April 2018. NDTV in the article reported that an Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner flying from Amritsar to Delhi was hit by severe turbulence, causing injuries to three passengers in the plane. The video was reportedly shot by a passenger inside the plane during the turbulence. The description of the photo states, “Dazed Air India passengers are seen being consoled and assisted by cabin crew.”

Reporting the details, several news websites published articles in 2018. They can be seen here, here and here. The Boeing 787 Dreamliner after take-off from Amritsar on 19 April 2018, had a very turbulent flight for 10 to 15 minutes during the climb phase from 8,000 feet to 21,000 feet. A window panel’s inner layer reportedly fell off during the turbulence in the plane. The outside layer of the window panel did not break and there was no de-pressurisation because of the inner layer break. The incident shown in the video did not take place recently after Tata’s takeover of Air India company in January 2022.

To sum it up, an old video is shared as recent visuals of a window panel break off in an Air India plane.
