A post is being shared on social media claiming it as the recent video of BJP leaders getting thrashed by the public. The post claims it as the public anger on BJP because of the new farm legislation. Let’s verify the claim made in the post.

The archived version of this post can be found here

Claim: Video of BJP leaders getting thrashed by the public during the ongoing protests against new farm legislation.

Fact: The Video shared in the post is an old one. This video shows Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJP) activists attacking West Bengal BJP President Dilip Ghosh in Darjeeling during 2017. This video has nothing to do with the ongoing farmers’ protest over the new farm legislation. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.

On reverse image search of the screenshots shared in the post, similar visuals were found in a video posted by ‘NMF’ news channel on ‘06 October 2017’. In the description of the video, it is mentioned that the West Bengal BJP President Dilip Ghosh was manhandled by the activists of Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJP) in Darjeeling. On searching for more details about this attack, we found an article published by the ‘Hindustan Times’ on ‘05 October 2017’. In the article, it is mentioned that Anti-Gurung agitators attacked BJP Bengal President Dilip Ghosh on ‘05 October 2017’.

Sharing the same details, few National news channels reported about this attack. They can be seen here, here and here. Dilip Ghosh went to Darjeeling to meet the Gurung’s faction and hold a Vijaya Sammilani programme. In an attempt to cancel the planned BJP meeting, Benoy-Tamang faction of Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJP) allegedly attacked Dilip Ghosh and his supporters.

Earlier, when the same video was shared with other false claims, FACTLY published fact-check articles about them. They can be read here, here, and here.

To sum it up, an old video of the attack on West Bengal BJP President is falsely linked to the ongoing farmers’ protest.
