Jagdeep Dhankhar, the former Vice President of India, unexpectedly resigned from his post on 21 July 2025, citing health reasons. In his resignation letter to President Droupadi Murmu, he stated that he was stepping down to prioritise his medical care and well-being. His decision came nearly two years before the completion of his term, raising widespread speculation and political chatter.
In this context, a video of Jagdeep Dhankhar is being shared on social media (here, here). In the video, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge says that Dhankhar is afraid of the government. In response, Dhankhar says, “This part of the assertion will be deleted. Why? Because India’s farmers and their sons are not afraid of anyone not afraid under any circumstances.” The post is being shared with the claim that this exchange in Parliament took place a day before Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned. Let’s verify the claim made in the post in this article.

Claim: The video shows former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar saying, “I am a farmer’s son, I am not afraid of anyone,” in the Parliament, a day before he resigned.
Fact: The viral video dates back to 03 April 2025 during a Rajya Sabha discussion in the budget session. It is not from a day before Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned. The Monsoon Session began on 21 July 2025, and Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned the same day. The viral video is unrelated to his resignation. Hence, the claim made in the post is MISLEADING.
A reverse image search of keyframes from the viral video led us to an X post (archived) by NDTV India, dated 04 April 2025, which featured the same video. This confirms that the video is not recent and is unrelated to the 2025 Monsoon Session of the Indian Parliament, which officially began on 21 July 2025.
We then performed a Google keyword search and found the full video of the Parliament proceedings, which was livestreamed on the YouTube channel of CNN News18 on 03 April 2025. During the session, several leaders spoke on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, followed by voting on the bill. The viral video clip appears at the timestamp 5:18:02. In this segment, Mallikarjun Kharge can be seen speaking about the bill. Notably, both Kharge and Dhankhar are wearing the same clothes as seen in the viral clip, confirming that the footage is from the same day’s proceedings.

After the bill passed in the Lok Sabha, it was subsequently passed in the Rajya Sabha around 2:30 am on 04 April 2025. Following this, Home Minister Amit Shah introduced the resolution for discussion regarding the President’s Rule imposed in Manipur in February 2025. During this session, Mallikarjun Kharge requested that the discussion be postponed to the next sitting of the House. When Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar did not agree, Kharge remarked that Dhankhar was afraid of the government. In response, Dhankhar stated that he was a farmer’s son and not afraid of anyone under any circumstances. Kharge’s remark was later expunged from the official record of the proceedings.
To sum up, an old video of Jagdeep Dhankhar saying “I’m a farmer’s son, not afraid of anyone”, is shared linking it to his resignation of July 2025.
