The archived version of this post can be found here

Claim: Fishes entered a house along with the rainwater in Hyderabad during the ongoing rains.

Fact: The video of fishes entering a house along with the rainwater is doing rounds on the internet at least since August 2020 and was attributed to Warangal and Pakistan, The video has nothing to do with the ongoing Hyderabad rains. Hence the claim made in the post is FALSE.

The same video was also shared by TV9 Marathi news channel on Facebook and Twitter (archive), claiming it to be related to the recent heavy rains in Hyderabad.

Google search with relevant keywords led us to a news video which reported the same video. The video is uploaded on YouTube on 25 August 2020 and the description of the video reads “Viral Video: Fishes Inside House Due To Floods In Warangal”. However, we did not find any other credible source attributing the video to Warangal floods. But by the date of upload of the video on Youtube, we can conclude that the video is not related to the ongoing rains in Hyderabad.

We found few old social media posts and YouTube videos attributing this video to Warangal floods. Also, the same video is being circulated with the claim that the video is related to Pakistan floods. With all this, we can conclude that this video has nothing to do with the ongoing rains in Hyderabad.

In the wake of the incessant rains in Hyderabad, videos and posts like the ones in the post are being widely circulated on social media platforms with misleading claims.

To sum it up, the video of fishes entering a house along with the rain water has nothing to do with the ongoing Hyderabad rains.
