A post with a video of French President Emmanuel Macron being egged is widely shared on social media with the claim that the incident took place recently. Through this article let’s fact-check the claim made in the post.

Claim: Video of French President Emmanuel Macron being egged recently.

Fact: The incident of Macron being egged as shown in the post took place in 2017 when he attended a farm fair as part of his Presidential campaign. The video is being shared again in the wake of his latest statements on Islam against the beheading of the history teacher Samuel Paty. Hence the claim made in the post is MISLEADING.

Google search with relevant keywords led us to a 2017 news article which carried a video similar to the one in the post. According to the article, the incident took place when the then Presidential candidate Macron attended a farm fair ‘Salon International de l’Agriculture 2017’ in Paris back in 2017.

Further YouTube search with relevant keywords led us to a news video which carried visuals similar to the one in the post. We can spot the same background set up in both the videos. The description of the video reads ‘France: Macron egged during visit to Agricultural Fair’ and the video dates back to 01 March 2017. Another news video of the incident can be watched here. Further, we did not find any latest news reports of Macron being egged. With all this, we can conclude that the video of Emmanuel Macron being egged is an old one.

There is outrage across Muslim countries against the statements by French President Emmanuel Macron regarding Islam. He made these statements in the light of a history teacher’s beheading. It is in this context that posts similar to the one referred to in this article are being widely circulated across all social media platforms with misleading claims.
