Fact: The video actually shows anti CAA & NRC protests organised in Kerala’s Mannarkkad back in January 2020. Local news agencies have reported the protests back then. The video has nothing to do with the recent communal clashes in Tripura. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.
The viral video actually shows protesters in Kerala’s Mannarkkad staging a protest rally against the implementation of CAA & NRC back in January 2020. Reverse image search of the screenshots of the viral video led us to an Instagram post that shared a lengthier version of the same viral video. This video is shared with hashtags like #rejectnrc, #rejectcaa & #Mannarkkad, alluding that these visuals show anti CAA & NRC protests.
Further, in the viral video, we can spot protesters displaying banners with the words “Constitutional Protection Rally” and “03 January 2020” written on them.
In the Instagram video from 9:55 -10:27 timespan, protesters making way for an ambulance can be seen. A 06 January 2020 dated Malayali news article reported this particular incident of an ambulance passing through the protests against CAA & NRC in Kerala’s Mannarkkad. The article further published images and video of the incident. From this, it is evident that the viral video has nothing to do with the recent communal clashes in Tripura.
