Fact: The video shared in the post shows an old incident of a young man named Pankaj Tripathi brutally assaulting his girlfriend in Madhya Pradesh. Pankaj Tripathi assaulted his girlfriend for repeatedly demanding to marry her. There is no communal narrative in the incident. Hence, the claim made in the post is False.
On reverse image search of the screenshots of the video, a video with similar visuals was found published by ‘Times Now’ on 24 December 2022. ‘Times Now’ reported it is the visuals of a young man brutally slapping and kicking his girlfriend in the Rewa district of Madhya Pradesh. Several news websites published articles and videos related to the incident in December 2022. All these news agencies reported the accused name as Pankaj Tripathi from Dhera village in the Rewa district.
Speaking about the incident, Naveen Tiwari, a sub-divisional police officer of Rewa, said, “On basis of an FIR registered by the victim in Mauganj police station, accused Pankaj Tripathi has been arrested for beating her following a dispute while they were going to his native place in Dhera“. As per the reports, the victim and the accused were in a relationship and the dispute took place after the victim demanded him to marry her. Rewa SP too published a tweet related to the incident.
The Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister’s office published a tweet related to the incident on 25 December 2022. The Chief Minister’s office through the tweet informed the public that the accused Pankaj Tripathi was arrested and his illegally built house was demolished by the officials. Rewa Collector’s Office too tweeted a video showing the demolition of the accused Pankaj Tripathi’s house. The Rewa Collector’s office in the tweet mentioned the accused Pankaj Tripathi’s father’s name as Kanhaiya Lal Tripathi.
