A video through a post is being widely shared on social media claiming that a Muslim in Karauli is threatening Hindus. Let us fact-check the claim made in the post.

Claim: Video of a Muslim threatening Hindus in Karauli.

Fact: The video is being shared on social media at least since 2020. So, the video is old, and is not related to the recent Karauli violence in Rajasthan. On 02 April 2022, Rajasthan’s Karauli had witnessed severe communal attacks. Hence, the claim made in the post is MISLEADING.

When a reverse image search is done on the screenshots of the video, the same video was being shared on social media at least since 2020. So, the video is old and not a recent one. The Facebook video uploaded in May 2020 says that the video was from Hyderabad. The same video went viral on WhatsApp in April 2019 as being from Nizamabad in Telangana. A hotel with a similar name ‘STAR HOTEL’ with similar signage is in Nizamabad. While we could not conclude if the video is from Telangana, its presence on the internet from 2019 suggests that the video is old and has nothing to do with the current situation in Karauli in Rajasthan.

On 02 April 2022, Rajasthan’s Karauli had witnessed severe communal clashes. Hindus who were taking out a motorcycle rally to mark the occasion of ‘Nav Samvatsar’, the first day of Hindu New Year, were pelted with stones while passing through a Muslim-dominated neighbourhood. It was reported that around 42 people were injured, and police have arrested around 40 people so far.

To sum it up, an old video is shared as Muslim threatening Hindus amidst recent clashes in Karauli, Rajasthan.
