A video is being shared on social media claiming it shows the CCTV visuals of a recent bomb attack in a hospital in Gaza. Amid the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine, the video is going viral on social media. Let’s verify the claim made in the post.
Claim: Video showing the CCTV footage of a recent bomb attack in a hospital in Gaza.
Fact: The video shared in the post shows an old bomb attack in the Omar bin Abdul Aziz hospital in Aleppo, Syria. The Al-Shifa hospital in Gaza City, packed with wounded and other Palestinians seeking shelter, was hit by airstrikes on 17 October 2023. But the video shared in the post is old and has nothing to do with the ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict. Hence, the claim made in the post is Misleading.
On reverse image search of the screenshots of the video, the same video was found tweeted by a journalist from Syria. Fared Al Mahlool, the Freelance Syrian conflict reporter, tweeted the video mentioning that the visuals show one of the many hospitals in Syria targeted by Russian and Assad forces with bomb attacks. Based on the timestamp of this video, it indicates that the recording took place on 16 July 2016.
When we searched for more details of the video using this information, the same video was found to be published by the Aleppo Media Center (AMC) YouTube channel on 31 July 2016. The description of the video states- “Moments documenting the crime: “The air strike that targeted Omar bin Abdulaziz Hospital in mid-July.”
In July 2016, the Russian-backed Syrian government forces conducted air strikes on Omar Bin Abdul Aziz Hospital in the Al-Maadi neighbourhood in the eastern part of Aleppo City. News reports about these air strikes by the Russian and Asad forces can be seen here, here, and here.
The Al-Shifa hospital in Gaza City, packed with wounded and other Palestinians seeking shelter, was hit by a wave of air strikes on 17 October 2023. The Israeli forces and Hamas accused each other of this attack on the Gaza City hospital. On 29 October 2023, the Israeli warplanes reportedly carried out airstrikes near Gaza’s largest Hospital. But the video shared in the post is old and has nothing to do with the recent attack on the Gaza City Hospital.
To sum it up, an old video from Syria was shared as the visuals of a recent bomb attack on a hospital in Gaza.
