Old video from Nepal shared as recent visuals of a hailstorm in Rajasthan’s Udaipur

In the context of recent reports of hailstorms in several parts of Rajasthan, a video of a hailstorm is being widely shared on social media claiming it as the visuals from Udaipur. Let’s verify the claim made in the post.

Claim: Visuals of hailstorm in Udaipur, India.

Fact: This video shows a hailstorm in Nepal on 18 April 2020. Though hailstorms were reported across several parts of Rajasthan, this video is not related to that incident. Hence the claim made in the post is MISLEADING.

A reverse image search of the viral video revealed that the same video has been shared by multiple users in the past as visuals from Chhattisgarh, Vietnam etc. However, a Facebook video uploaded on 19 April 2020 contains the TikTok user ID ‘diwakarbartaula’. Taking a cue from this, we searched for the viral video on TikTok and found that the video was first uploaded from this account on 18 April 2020 as visuals from Chitwan, Nepal.

When ‘Fact Crescendo’ contacted the original uploader Diwakar Bartaula, he confirmed that the video was recorded by him on 18 April 2020 at his farm in Gadauli village, Nepal. He also shared another video of his farm with them. Earlier in 2020, FACTLY debunked the same video when it went viral as visuals from Telangana’s Warangal. Recent visuals from hailstorm-affected areas in Rajasthan can be seen here.

To sum it up, an old video of hailstorm in Nepal is shared as recent visuals of hailstorm in Udaipur.
