Old video from ‘Black Lives Matter’ protests falsely linked to US Capitol building protest

A video is being shared on social media claiming that a man with Batman attire joined the protests at US Capitol building in Washington DC. In the video, a man in Batman attire is seen joining a protest. On ‘06 January 2021’, a pro-Trump mob stormed at Capitol building in Washington DC. Let’s verify the claim made in the post.

Claim: Video of Batman joining the protests at Capitol building in Washington DC.

Fact: Video shared in the post is from the ‘Black Lives Matter’ protests held at Philadelphia City Hall during 2020. Bob Gable, the person dressed in Batman attire shared this video on his social media handles during May 2020. This video has nothing to do with the recent pro-Trump mob attack on US Capitol building. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.

On reverse image search of the photo shared in the post using appropriate keywords, a video with similar visuals is found in an article published by ‘The Philadelphia Inquirer’ news website on ‘12 June 2020’. In the article, it is mentioned that a man dressed up in Batman hero attire, joined ‘Black Lives Matter’ protests at Philadelphia City Hall during May 2020. It is reported that a 43-year old Bob Gable, who is well known as Bucks County Batman, joined the protests held for the death of George Floyd in Batman attire in Philadelphia city in the US state of  Pennsylvania. ‘The Philadelphia Inquirer’ news website published a detailed article about Bob Gable on their website.  

Bob Gable shared the same video on his YouTube and Instagram pages on ‘30 May 2020’. They can be seen here and here. ‘Global News’ website on ‘04 June 2020’, published an article about people with superhero attires joining the ‘Black Lives Matter’ protests at different parts of the United States. Other news articles about ‘Black Lives Matter’ protests held in Philadelphia can be seen here and here.

On ‘06 January 2020’, Pro-Trump rioters stormed the US Capitol building in different superhero costumes. But, the video shared in the post is an old one.

To sum it up, an old video of a man joining ‘Black Lives Matter’ protest in Batman attire shared as the recent video shot during US Capitol building attack.
