A video telecast on ‘PTC NEWS’ channel is being shared on social media claiming it as the visuals of BJP leaders begging Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to abolish the new farm laws. ‘PTC NEWS’ published this video on 11 January 2021 on their official YouTube channel. In the wake of ongoing farmers’ protests over the new farm laws, this post is going viral on social media. Let’s verify the claim made in the post.

The archived version of the post can be seen here.

Claim: Video of  BJP leaders begging Rajnath Singh to abolish the new farm laws.

Fact: Video shared in the post is on the internet at least since August 2018. Earlier, the same video went viral claiming it as the visuals of 88 BJP leaders pleading Rajnath Singh to withdraw citizenship amendment acts in 2020. This video has nothing to do with the ongoing farmers’ protests. Hence, the claim made in the post is False.

On reverse image search of the screenshots in the video, similar visuals were found in a video shared by a user in his tweet on 07 August 2018. The user mentioned it as the visuals of BJP leaders pleading Rajnath Singh to revoke the SC/ST acts passed by the Government of India.

A video with similar visuals was uploaded on YouTube on 04 September 2018, with the title ‘BJP MLA Rajender Singh gave his resignation to Union Minister Rajnath Singh’. In the video, it is mentioned that BJP leader Rajendra Singh tendered his resignation to Union Minister Rajnath Singh during his protest against the SC/ST acts passed by the Government of India. Similar videos were published on social media in 2018 and they can be seen here and here. Though we could not ascertain the exact details of the video, it can be confirmed that the video shared in the post is an old one.

Earlier, when similar visuals were falsely linked to the protests against the citizenship amendment act, FACTLY published a fact-check article about this video.

Amid the ongoing farmers’ protests over the new farm laws, few leaders from the BJP and its allies have resigned in support of farmers’ protests. News reports about these leaders’ resignation can be seen here, here and here.

To sum it up, an old video is being falsely shared as the visuals of BJP leaders while pleading Rajnath Singh to revoke the new farm laws.
