In the run up to the 2024 Lok Sabha General elections and several states going to assembly elections in 2023 & 2024, multiple videos, like news reports, opinion polls, exit polls, etc. are being shared in the light of the forth coming elections.  Through this article, let’s fact-check the veracity of such series of viral posts.

Video 1:

This viral news report about AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi campaigning in seven Muslim concentrated seats in West Bengal is being shared on social media platforms, accompanying it with  ‘#Breaking News’ hashtag, as if the news clip is recent one.

Claim: Recent news clip about AIMIM contesting Muslim dominated areas in West Bengal.

Fact: This is an old news clip, related to 2021 General elections in West Bengal. Republic Bharat telecast this clip on 27 March 2021, analysing the winning prospects of different parties, following AIMIM’s decision to field candidates in Muslim dominated areas. The news clip has nothing to with the recent political developments. Hence the claim made in the post is FALSE.

The viral news report does not show any recent political development, but an old report, that dates back to March 2021. Republic Bharat, telecast this report on 27 March 2021, in the light of the ongoing general elections.

The report analyzes the winning prospects of different parties, following Owaisi’s decision to field their candidates from the Muslim dominated areas. AIMIM official twitter handle also shared few glimpses of Asaduddin Owaisi’s political gathering in Murshidabad, as part of election campaign.

Thus, it is clearly evident that the viral news clip is an old report covering the 2021 West Bengal general elections and is being shared now without any context.

To sum it up, old news reports are being circulated out of context, linking them to current political developments.
