Let’s verify the claim made in the post.
Claim: Despite the number of Brahmins in the country being 3.5%, 100% of them have been made civil judges in the provincial civil service- Judiciary examination, UPPSC.
Fact: The candidates mentioned in the claim post are the ones who qualified for the provincial civil service- Judiciary examination in the year 2018-19. Moreover, the commission released a press note where it was mentioned that approximately 50% of the qualified candidates are under the unreserved category. This category is open to not just Brahmins but to all Indian citizens irrespective of religion, caste, or economic status. Hence, the claim made in the post is Misleading.
With the relevant keyword search about the information given in the claim post, we found that the candidates mentioned are the ones who qualified for the provincial civil service- Judiciary examination in the year 2018-19, from a news article published by Hindustan Times.
Further, we found that the press note released by the commission clearly mentioned that ‘In the examination, 610 candidates have been selected against a total of 610 vacancies. Out of these, 306 candidates have been selected against 306 vacancies in the unreserved category (approximately 50%), 164 candidates against 164 vacancies in the Other Backward Class category, and 128 candidates have been selected against 128 vacancies in the Scheduled Caste category. Relative to 12 vacancies in the Scheduled Tribe category, 12 candidates have been declared successful. In this regard, it is also worth noting that under horizontal reservation, against 01 vacancy of the PB category of disabled and 07 vacancies of the PD category, due to the non-availability of any candidate, it has been recommended to be moved forward.’
Here, it is important to note that the unreserved category is open to not just Brahmins but to all Indian citizens, regardless of their caste, tribe, or economic status. Moreover, candidates from reserved categories can also compete for seats in the unreserved category, based on their merit. However, candidates in the unreserved category cannot compete for seats reserved for specific categories.
To sum up, the old merit list of qualified candidates for the provincial civil service- Judiciary examination of UP is shared with misleading information.
