A social media post claiming that as per the new education policy, there will be no board exams for 10th class is being widely circulated across the social media platforms. Through this article let’s fact-check the claim made in the post.
Claim: No board exams for 10th class – New Education Policy 2020
Fact: The New Education Policy, 2020 did not propose to cancel the board exams for 10th class. The policy allows for the continuation of board and entrance for 10th and 12th. In fact, to lower the stakes of these board exams, the NEP (2020) has proposed to conduct of board exams twice in an academic year, one main examination and one for improvement, if desired. Hence the claim made in the post is MISLEADING.
Aiming to make sweeping reforms in school and higher education the Union government in July 2020 has adopted the New Education Policy, 2020 replacing the 34-year-old National Policy on Education, framed in 1986.
The New Education Policy, 2020 proposes a multitude of reforms in regard to school and higher education like multiple entry and exit options in degree courses, common entrance exams for universities, a single regulator for higher education institutions, etc. and discontinuation of MPhil programs.
However, the New Education policy did not propose to do away with board exams for the 10th class as claimed in the viral post. When the same claim went viral across social media platforms, PIB through a tweet rated the viral news as false and clarified that the NEP, 2020 did not do away with the board exams.
To sum it up, National Education Policy, 2020 did not do away with the board exams for 10th class.
