Fact: The man in the viral video does not bear any resemblance to Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi. In the video, the pastor pronounces ‘Simranjeet Singh’ as the name of the person who was getting baptized. Had Charanjit Singh Channi been baptized, media would have reported it widely. However, no such reports were found. Hence the claim made in the post is FALSE.
The man in the video does not bear any resemblance to Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi. Upon juxtaposing an image of Charanjit Singh Channi with that of the man in the viral video, we could not find any similarities.
Further at 0:30 time stamp of the video, we can clearly hear the Pastor pronouncing ‘Simranjeet Singh’ as the name of the person who he is baptizing, which makes it clear that the man is not Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi. However, we could not find the exact context of the video.
Ever since Charanjit Singh Channi took over as Punjab’s Chief Minister, videos and images questioning his religious identity are being shared on social media. Earlier, a video of Channi, where he is seen saying Hallelujah was shared with a claim that ‘Charanjit Singh praised the Jesus after being sworn in as the Chief Minister of Punjab’. As per the available information, Channi is a Sikh. Had Charanjit Singh Channi been baptized, media would have reported it widely. However, there are no such reports.
